Abstract

A major problem in global supply chains is the lack of transparency caused by separated data systems, which leads to losses of more than $500 billion a year. This paper examines blockchain as an emerging technology that improves transparency among stakeholders. Using the BDT MBA Supply Chain Dataset 2024 from Kaggle and the IBM Food Trust example, the study quantifies the effect of distributed ledgers on recall time and trust. The findings indicate that traceability became 480 times faster and consumer trust increased by 70%. Replacing trust-based systems with verification-based systems reduced paperwork time by 85%. Although blockchain is difficult to implement, it helps to build secure, sustainable, and reliable global supply chains.
